A native Hawaiian, born and raised in Hawai`i, Kahu (spiritual guide/ guardian, minister) Wendell Kalanikapuaenui Silva currently serves as the senior pastor of the Aloha Ke Akua Chapel.

Kahu Silva's spiritual work ministering to those in need has been a lifelong commitment. He is blessed with a unique spiritual heritage and a special gift passed to him from many generations of both ancient pre-Christian and modern Hawaiian and European family religious practitioners. He follows in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather, co-founder one of the first Hawaiian Christian churches in Honolulu 100 years ago.

Warmly regarded by his many followers, he is highly respected for his indepth knowledge of the Hawaiian culture and protocol, chant, music and his extensive training in Hawaiian spiritual traditions, and values, ho`okupu rituals and ho`oponopono (conflict resolution).

Kahu Silva's distinguised service includes the honor of serving as officiant for many state, city, federal government and military ceremonies including blessing and dedication ceremonies for the Veteran's Administration, the Disabled Americans, the Dept. of the Interior, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, the University of Hawai`i, State Teacher's Assn., and the elderly community (initating the state's Meals-on-Wheels Program) the Hawai`i Visitor's Bureau, Ogilvy Mather, Wendy's International Restaurants and many public and private corporations.

A highly visionary individual with great leadership skills, Kahu Silva is a dynamic problem-solver, award-winning composer, professional singer, writer, and lecturer also serving the community as a Hawaiian cutural/spiritual advisor.

Attracted by his warm and positive nature, Kahu is devoted to ministering to others "from the heart," and sharing a genuine spirit of aloha.

 

  • 1975: Queen Lili`uokalani Keiki Hula Competition, Founder.
  • 1977: Prince Lot Hula Festival, Co-founder.
  • Hawai`i Secondary Schools Hula Kahiko Competition, Founder.
     
  • Award-winning composer and vocalist/recording artist.

 

  • 1999: Chairman of the Hawai`i United Nations International Year of the Older Adult Celebration
  • 1999: Policy Advisory Board Member for Elder Affairs Appointed by the governor to serve on the advisory board of the state Executive Office on Aging.
     
  • 1999: Hawaiian Cultural Chairman, Windward Community Arts Council.
     
  • 1990: Appointed the first native Hawaiian executive director of the Hawai`i State Foundation on Culture & the Arts (SFCA) & served with distinction until 1996.
  • 1979: Consul of Portugal Award for perpetuating Portuguese heritage in Hawai`i.
  • 1978: Centennial Commission Award of Merit.
  • 1973: Honolulu Committee on Aging Resolution:
    "For dedicated public service, support and contributions in ministering faithfully and unselfishly...giving of himself...without reservation and without thought of personal gain and glory."
